Breakfast appears to be on for this coming Saturday's chapter meeting. The volunteer sign up list is available in the hangar.
On Monday June 12, numerous chapter members presented light aviation to a few dozen summer school kids from the Dunlap district. Kevin Pearson had asked the chapter about hosting a field trip for the kids, and the board tasked Killian Madeley with the preparations.
Killian's summary:
Thanks to those who came out on June 12th and volunteered your time, knowledge, and aircraft to help support our event for the Dunlap elementary school kids! I was very happy with the way things turned out, and I'm glad we were able to fill the space with numerous types of airplanes and some stuff these kids may never have gotten the chance to see in their day-to-day lives. Although it was only Kevin, Gene, and I up at the FBO to greet the kids, they got this priceless look of wonder when Dean Lake did some circles in the Decathlon and then took off. I'm sure they will remember the event for a long time, and hopefully this brings some new members to the EAA—national and local.
Morrie Caudill was one of the volunteers working down by the chapter hangar:
The kids were great... The big attraction while Andy was making his presentation was the mirror polish on his wing. The balloon was also a big hit. Kathy let them get in the basket and pull the burner.
The ground maintenance staff at 3MY brought down the runway brush, and several chapter members displayed various types of airplanes. This was an excellent effort by the chapter, and Killian is to be thanked for organizing it. Efforts such as this is a reason he's this year's Ray Scholarship recipient at the chapter.
The VMC and IMC Clubs meet at their usual times in the hangar this month. For August, the IMC Club has invited the director of airports and a representative from the tower to talk at their meeting, and more details will be in next month's newsletter.
In the monthly Chapter Video, HQ reminded members of the reciprocal museum program which gives EAA members free access to museums across the country. They also announced Boeing is covering admission to the Oshkosh fly-in for guests younger than 18.
The Audit Committee report should be available soon.
At the June chapter meeting, Greg LePine pointed out the number of youth programs and scholarships the chapter provides and reminded the membership this is done from donations. He suggested $50 as appropriate. If you do donate, keep in mind the matching gift programs the chapter is signed up for; contact the Treasurer for more information.
Greg also extends a thank you to Kent and Anne Lynch who donated three EAA straw hats to members of the Cruzer build team. At least two of these hats will be at OSH in late July. "I got to tell you that they had big smiles and thanked us for the gift. All said it will really help when outside at the airport and OSH."
Killian Madeley has been flying solo and preparing for his cross country flights. He applied for and has been awarded a Lightspeed Zulu headset.
The twice delayed Young Eagles rally for the Flight Club at Dunlap High School may not be scheduled until school resumes this fall.
The teens first assembled a wing skeleton early in the month and have begun to fit the skins. The cabin area was finally fitted up, was removed for deburring, and is now being reassembled for riveting.
Interesting visitors to the field in June included a Wheeler Express four place homebuilt and a TBM 700.
