Both clubs will meet in the hangar at their usual time and day this month. The VMC is this Sunday at 6:30, and the IMC is the following Sunday at 6:00.
Bob Pegg and the kitchen crew are always looking for volunteers.
Chapters can earn several thousand dollars by manning a pancake breakfast at OSH. This was mentioned at the March meeting, but only four people have expressed interest, well short of the 14 minimum required by HQ. Five area chapters were sent an e-mail inviting them to join in, but none replied. We might try again next year.
At the March chapter meeting, Logan Turner thanked the chapter for helping him acquire his pilot's license via the Ray program. He is continuing to fly on the money remaining in his scholarship.
Jolene Miller's checkride has for various reasons had to be postponed several times now. The last few weeks it's been the weather, or as she put it: "... weather will win every time!"
The search for the Ray scholarship candidate for 2022 is in progress.
Both the Saturday and Tuesday sessions are continuing to work on the practice kits from Van's. Many mistakes are being made, including dimpling skins in the wrong direction and failing to properly cleco parts being match drilled. Hopefully lessons are being learned and similar, albeit far more costly, mistakes will be avoided when work begins on the airplane kit itself, about a month from now.
The Saturday build session in mid March was poorly attended, the organizer (yours truly) having forgotten it was the week of spring break. The Tuesday build session was better attended since this group is comprised of teens schooled at home.
Regarding the r/c airplane kit we purchased from HQ for the Dunlap High School Flight Club, this note was received from Teri Brandt:
Thought you'd like to see that we have started on the kit you gave us. Rob's donated plywood has allowed us to create overhead storage to free up space to set up a nice building area in my storage area.
Welcome to Bill Van Antwerp from Tremont, who attended the March chapter meeting and has joined the chapter. He stopped by one of the Zenith build sessions to watch their work.
To no surprise, the cost of 100LL at 3MY is rising. The most recent tanker load of fuel cost the airport more per gallon than the current $4.50 pump price. For a while, they are decreasing their mark-up a third to offer the fuel at $5.80 per gallon. As the price rises at nearby airports, the price will increase here as well.
The Purdue Airport Day is on this year, the last two times having been canceled due to the pandemic. It's at the University Airport in Lafayette, IN.
