EAA Chapter 563 News

February 2019

Chapter

The extreme cold plus widespread ice over 3MY have canceled a number of events at our hangar these last two weeks. We will try to hold breakfast and a chapter meeting this Saturday. Watch for melting ice on the ground around the hangar. This month's chapter meeting will be the usual. March's meeting will include a presenatation on the Grumman TBM Avenger by Brad Deckert, owner of the one based in Peru, IL.

VMC and IMC Club

The last VMC Club found the 3MY WiFi link down, and they were unable to reach the materials on line at Pilot Workshop. It was found the WiFi was working inside the FBO building, and the TV there was used to present the material. The Pilot Workshop scenarios are definitely a step up from those supplied by EAA national, and a good conversation developed among the members present. The next meeting is this Sunday at 6 PM in the hangar. The next IMC Club meeting will be Sunday the 10th at 6 PM. Due to the federal shutdown, ATC at PIA postponed the tower visit for January. At the January meeting, the schedule for Club fly-outs was changed. The plan was to schedule a fly-out on the months that had a 5th Tuesday, making January 29th the first one. However, many members work, and it was agreed the first fly-out will instead be this Saturday, February 2, to Alton, IL for lunch.

Youth Programs

Rob Meyer has completed our chapter's application to enter the Ray Aviation Scholarship program at EAA national. National will not be processing these until the middle of the month, and we should know if we were successful by the end of the month.

Members

Terry Moushon has been looking into less expensive sources for aviation engine oil. Buying 5 or more cases at a time lowers the price, and if you are interested in a group buy, please contact him directly or through the chapter's main e-mail.

Airport

PIA

While PIA has remained open, the weather has been hard on their equipment, with two truck break downs including a broken transfer case and differential housing. The city's new water run-off tax has been applied to the airport runways and taxiways. They have appealed, claiming these should be treated the same as city streets.
